How I Became…Events Marketing Co-Ordinator

Beth Maybury, our Events Marketing Co-Ordinator, is based in our Leeds office and is responsible for marketing a range of our event portfolios, including Smart Manufacturing, Pharmaceuticals, and Oil & Gas. She works closely with our Marketing Director, and leads a team of marketing executives and assistants to market our conferences through a range of platforms including email marketing, social media, media partnerships, stakeholder marketing, guesting strategies, and more. In this interview, Beth talks up through her career path leading to her current role at AMG World, and advice she’d give to anyone wanting to pursue a career in marketing.

What inspired you to enter a career in marketing?

During my Events Management degree, it was like a lightbulb moment. I realised I was fascinated with the ‘why’ behind people’s (and organisation’s) decisions. Marketing is a rare industry where creativity meets strategy. There’s a path for everyone. Whether you’re more numbers-focused,  creative, or a mix of both, there’s such a diversity of opportunities.

How have your previous experiences shaped your skill set and prepared you for your current role?

My undergraduate gave me a solid foundation in both the operational and marketing sides of events. Topped up by my Master’s in Digital Marketing. When I spotted the Marketing Executive role at AMG World, it was like finding the perfect role that aligned with my skills, experience, and personality!

What advice would you offer to someone aspiring to follow a similar career path?

Learn as much as you can. Marketing is an exciting, ever-changing world where there’s always something new to discover. Make the most of the free resources out there – webinars, events, blogs, and more. Cultivate a genuine passion for the industry and stay on top of trends.
